About Maharashtra 3-Jyotirlinga Yatra
Maharashtra is the only state blessed with three of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and this circuit threads all three in a single arc. It opens at Bhimashankar, hidden in the Sahyadri rainforest at the source of the Bhima river, where Shiva slew the demon Tripurasura. It rises to Trimbakeshwar near Nashik — the only three-faced Jyotirlinga, representing Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, set at the source of the Godavari (the Dakshina Ganga) and the one temple in India authorised for the Kalsarpa Shanti and Narayan Nagbali rites. It closes at Grishneshwar beside the UNESCO World Heritage Ellora Caves — the twelfth and final Jyotirlinga and the traditional completion-point of the whole 12-Jyotirlinga yatra. The 5-7 day road route runs Pune to Aurangabad so it never doubles back, pairing each darshan with a natural or heritage wonder — Sahyadri forest, the Godavari ghats, and Ellora's monolithic Kailasa temple.
